Automated criminal record checks by Ideco AFISwitch which is the only private company that is linked directly with the South African Police Service (SAPS) AFIS

AFISwitch interfaces to the SAPS AFIS to validate the criminal record status of a search candidate.  The system provides electronic criminal record status checks based on fingerprints using live scan of FBI-approved flatbed scanner fingerprint data. 

The system will allow institutions to request pre-employment Criminal Check and thereby establish within 48 hours if an individual has a police record.

The fingerprints of the individual will be taken at the company's premises who requests the criminal record checks or at the offices of Poly Inc. 

AFISwitch reduces processing time and increases accuracy when compared to name clearances and manual fingerprint checks. 

HOW DOES THE AFISwitch WORK?

• Poly Inc the service provider is registered with Ideco AFISwitch and is supplied with a workstation.  This setup is used to register applicants for which the AFISwitch background check is to be performed.

• The service provider is signed on to an AFISwitch workstation by entering a user ID and presenting a matching fingerprint. 

• Ten fingerprints and a demographic data of an applicant are then captured on-line or off-line using an AFISwitch workstation and Live scan fingerprint reader.

• The workstation uploads data to AFISwitch via a secure internet connection.

• AFISwitch then transmits the electronic fingerprints directly to the SAPS AFIS sub-system for identification purposes.

• AFISwitch in turn returns a Possible illicit activity identified or No illicit activity identified report to the service provider. 

• The SAPS has established procedures in the event that any applicant disputes the validity of results.

2.      Indemnity form (Poly Inc Will supply a copy)

Payment is to be made on the day finger prints are taken or arrangements can be made with Management to pay 7 days from Invoice.

Poly Inc is the only service provider registered with Ideco in Port Elizabeth.
